www.socialsecurity.gov/disabilityonline; - You can call Social Security and request a telephone interview at (866) 772-1213. Social Security will set up a time and date and will call you directly to take the necessary information over the telephone. They will then send you various forms for signature.
- You can call Social Security at (866)772-1213 and request an in person appointment. You will then go to your local Social Security office for an interview. At the conclusion of the interview, you will be asked to sign various forms.
- You can work with a professional representative or attorney to present your claim. Your representative or attorney can handle your entire claim from application through each level of appeal. In California call (866-772-5299)
Social Security Survivors Benefits --Use their Survivors Planner to look at survivors benefits from two sides:1) how your family members are protected if you die, and 2) how you may qualify as a survivor on someone else's Social Security record. This protection is particularly important for young families with children.
SSI -- The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources. SSI benefits also are payable to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits.
Medicare -- Medicare is our country’s health insurance program for people age 65 or older. Certain people younger than age 65 can qualify for Medicare, too, including those who have disabilities and those who have permanent kidney failure or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). The program helps with the cost of health care, but it does not cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care.
